The energy industry is at a pivotal moment. Unprecedented data center expansion, rapid AI adoption, and a resurgence in domestic manufacturing are driving unprecedented demand for reliable power. In 2025, solar and battery energy storage accounted for 81% of new load growth in the U.S., demonstrating just how critical these technologies have become to the nation’s energy future.
Behind every solar project and energy storage system is the infrastructure that connects, protects, and delivers power. For nearly 30 years, Shoals has been helping build that foundation, and the company’s newly released sustainability report tells a story that goes far beyond products and manufacturing. It is a story about growth, transformation, and a commitment to creating long-term value for people, communities, and the energy systems that power modern life.
A Year of Transformation
Few years have been as transformative for Shoals as 2025. The company celebrated several significant milestones, including its 30th anniversary and its fifth year as a public company. But perhaps the most visible sign of progress was the opening of its new 638,000 sq.ft. Mega manufacturing facility in Portland, Tennessee. The state-of-the-art campus brought operations from three separate facilities under one roof and marked a major investment in the future of American manufacturing.

The move was about more than increasing capacity. By consolidating operations, Shoals is creating opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance safety, strengthen quality control, and reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing over time. The facility also supports domestic energy infrastructure and local job creation, helping ensure critical electrical products are manufactured close to the markets they serve.
Sustainability Starts with People
Sustainability often brings to mind emissions, recycling, and renewable energy. But at Shoals, it also means investing in the people who make the company’s success possible.
One of the most compelling examples highlighted in the report is the growth of Shoals’ English as a Second Language (ESL) program. What began as a small initiative expanded rapidly during its first year, growing from 15 participants to 54 graduates. The program provides employees with opportunities to strengthen language skills, build confidence, and pursue greater responsibilities within the company. Participants reported stronger communication, a greater sense of belonging, and increased opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Building on that momentum in 2026, Shoals is expanding our language programming to include “Spanish for Workforce” program. It will help native English speakers communicate more effectively with Spanish-speaking colleagues, creating a more connected workplace.
The company’s investment in its workforce extends beyond language development. In 2025, Shoals expanded employee benefits, introduced career progression pathways for hourly workers, strengthened leadership development efforts, and continued growing apprenticeship and co-op programs designed to develop the next generation of manufacturing talent.
Creating a Safe Workspace
At the heart of operational excellence is a commitment to safety. As part of the transition to the Mega facility, Shoals used AI-assisted ergonomic studies to evaluate more than 130 manufacturing processes and redesign workflows to help reduce workplace risks. The result was a manufacturing environment built with employee well-being in mind from the ground up.
The company also incorporated ergonomic enhancements, improved production layouts, and expanded employee support spaces throughout the facility. While safety remains a continuous journey, these investments are designed to support Shoals’ long-term goal of maintaining industry-leading health and safety performance.
Environmental Progress with a Long-Term View
The path to sustainability is rarely measured in a single year. Instead, it is built through deliberate investments and continuous improvement.
Throughout 2025, Shoals advanced several key initiatives that support its long-term environmental goals. The company continued developing plans to integrate renewable energy into its operations, established a roadmap toward ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, strengthened waste tracking systems, and enhanced environmental data collection capabilities.
The report also highlights practical actions already making a difference. Shoals recycled 898 metric tons of wood spools, reused manufacturing plastics, recovered materials from lithium-ion batteries, and expanded cardboard recycling efforts. Water conservation initiatives and closed-loop manufacturing systems further support efficient resource use.
While emissions increased in 2025 due largely to the operational realities of opening and ramping a new manufacturing facility, Shoals expects many of those impacts to normalize as the Mega facility reaches full operational efficiency. The company continues to monitor performance closely and refine its strategy as it works toward its 2027 sustainability goals.
Building a More Resilient Energy Future
Shoals’ sustainability story ultimately comes back to its core purpose: enabling global electrification and making the complex simple. The company’s products help deliver the infrastructure needed to support utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, and emerging data center applications. By the end of 2025, Shoals solutions supported more than 93 GW of solar generation capacity worldwide.
As energy demand continues to grow, the challenge facing the industry is not simply generating more power. It is building the infrastructure, workforce, and operational resilience needed to deliver that power safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
The progress detailed in the 2025 Sustainability Report reflects Shoals’ belief that long-term success requires investment in all three.
